Spread ‘Em: Championship Week

For your OTP staff, there are two things we love without apology. College football and making money. But why should we continue to keep these two passions in private when they go so well together. Each week we’ll be bringing you our picks against the dreaded spread and where we’re actually putting our money. Myself, your fearless OTP leader, as well as RV and a resident newbie to the OTP family will give you our selections to help make your Saturday more exciting, pay for junior’s college fund, or your growing meth habit. We’re not judging. We promise. You can check out Week 13’s picks here as a sort of fact check for the referenced weekly and season records below.

The spreads are when we placed the wagers, so they may be changing a bit by the time you can either get to a sportsbook, go online, or find a bookie in a seedy backroom of your local watering hole.

RV’s Picks:
Oklahoma -7
TCU will have problems scoring 10 points, what an atrocity of a season for the Horned Frogs. Fucking douches.

Georgia +8
I get an extra point because I jumped on this at the right time. Although I don’t disagree with what Brewer said, the biggest reason Bama has problems is that Saban just isn’t that good of a coach. He wouldn’t even be considered for a Big East East job at this point. 7th best MAC team.

Florida State -14
Agreed, GT is in trouble, already petitioning for a bowl as they didn’t play enough FBS schools.

WVU -21
I don’t normally like big spreads, but WVU can’t throw up 21 in the first 10 minutes, so you know…Charlie Weis.

South Alabama +6
Because why not? Hawaii is just putrid.

Though a lifelong Notre Dame fan and unapologetic homer, RV actually can appreciate other teams and evaluate talent accordingly. RV clocked in at 3-1 in Week 13, bringing his season total to 21-14 against the spread, meaning he’s running 60% on the season.

Jason “Rothstein” Brewer’s Picks:
Kent State +6½
If nothing else because I want to see them make the BCS Bowl! Go MACtion

UCLA +9 (-115)
Went back n forth on this game. When in doubt take the dog.

Georgia +7 (-105)
I SMELL UPSET!!!!! ‘Bama is HORRIBLE against decent QBs.. and Georgia has one. Annnnnnd ‘Bama doesn’t have a pass rusher and Georgia’s is a “traditional passing QB”. I’ll gladly take the points and wouldn’t be surprised if they win outright!

Kansas State -11½
I’ve had a soft spot for Optimus Klein for winning me so much money this year… ride em till the end!

Florida State -14
Opposite could be said for FSU for always fucking the spread. Hopefully they rebound from being Gator Bait and don’t embarrass me.

Nebraska -3
The B1G is still playing!?! Meh

For the college season, Jason is running along at 20-23, or 47% and that’s after 2-11 the last two weeks. That means he’s due. You can follow along with Jason as he makes his weekly college picks and where he really excels: the NFL at @brewerjason.

Alan’s Picks:
Boise State (-8.5)
Alabama (-8.5)
Nebraska (-3)
Oklahoma State (-5)
Connecticut (+4.5)

No witty commentary from me, as I let me record do the smack talking. Decent week 13 for me, clocking in at 5-4, bringing my season total to 24-12, or 67% against the spread. Probably a couple more coming tomorrow on our Twitter site @overthepylon.

Spread Em: Week 13

For your OTP staff, there are two things we love without apology. College football and making money. But why should we continue to keep these two passions in private when they go so well together. Each week we’ll be bringing you our picks against the dreaded spread and where we’re actually putting our money. Myself, your fearless OTP leader, as well as RV and a resident newbie to the OTP family will give you our selections to help make your Saturday more exciting, pay for junior’s college fund, or your growing meth habit. We’re not judging. We promise. You can check out Week 12’s picks here as a sort of fact check for the referenced weekly and season records below.

The spreads are when we placed the wagers, so they may be changing a bit by the time you can either get to a sportsbook, go online, or find a bookie in a seedy backroom of your local watering hole.

RV’s Picks:
Stanford (-3) @ UCLA
Clemson (-3) v. South Carolina
Michigan (+5) @ Ohio State
San Diego State (-7) @ Wyoming
Tennessee (-14) v. Kentucky

Though a lifelong Notre Dame fan and unapologetic homer, RV actually can appreciate other teams and evaluate talent accordingly. RV clocked in at 5-1 in Week 12, bringing his season total to 18-13 against the spread. His stellar week 12 takes RV to 58% for the season.

Jason “Rothstein” Brewer’s Picks:
Jason didn’t turn in picks this week presumably because of travel plans for turkey day. I’m assuming this is what his pick sheet would have looked like given his focus on the holidays…
Cranberry Sauce (+4) v. Stuffing
Honeybaked Ham (-7) @ Deep Fried Turkey
Mashed Potatoes (+2) v. Green Beans
Broccoli Casserole (-1) @ Corn
Rolls (-3) v. Pumpkin Pie

Last week, Jason clocked in at 0-7, one of his only losing weeks of the season. For the college season, Jason is running along at 20-23, or 47% and that’s after 2-11 the last two weeks. That means he’s due. You can follow along with Jason as he makes his weekly college picks and where he really excels: the NFL at @brewerjason.

Alan’s Picks:
Louisville (-10.5) v. Connecticut
Rutgers (ML) @ Pitt
Oregon (-9.5) @ Oregon State
Florida State (-7) v. Florida
Ohio State (-4) v. Michigan
Georgia (-14) v. Georgia Tech
Tennessee (-13.5) v. Kentucky
Clemson (-4) v. South Carolina
Notre Dame (-4.5) @ USC

Another stellar week for me, clocking in at 5-1 and continuing the blazing hot streak, bringing my season total to 19-8, or 71% against the spread. Last week of the season and taking a significant amount of favorites. In some respects that worries me, but that’s how I feel and 71% of the time, my feeling is correct. Probably a couple more coming later this afternoon on our Twitter site @overthepylon.

Spread Em: Week 12

For your OTP staff, there are two things we love without apology. College football and making money. But why should we continue to keep these two passions in private when they go so well together. Each week we’ll be bringing you our picks against the dreaded spread and where we’re actually putting our money. Myself, your fearless OTP leader, as well as RV and a resident newbie to the OTP family will give you our selections to help make your Saturday more exciting, pay for junior’s college fund, or your growing meth habit. We’re not judging. We promise. You can check out Week 11’s picks here as a sort of fact check for the referenced weekly and season records below. RV and Jason had a bump in their road, but your OTP fearless leader had another stellar week.

The spreads are when we placed the wagers, so they may be changing a bit by the time you can either get to a sportsbook, go online, or find a bookie in a seedy backroom of your local watering hole.

RV’s Picks:
Ohio State (+3) @ Wisconsin
Louisiana Tech (+3) v. Utah State
USC (-4) @ UCLA
Miami (FL) (-7) v. South Florida
Penn State (-18) v. Indiana
Baylor (+12) v. Kansas State

Though a lifelong Notre Dame fan and unapologetic homer, RV actually can appreciate other teams and evaluate talent accordingly. RV clocked in at 1-4 in Week 11, bringing his season total to 13-12 against the spread. With a 60% average return before last week’s ghost in the machine, RV is due for a big week.

Jason “Rothstein” Brewer’s Picks:
Clemson (-17) v. NC State
Texas Tech (+10) @ Oklahoma State
USC (-3.5) @ UCLA
Kansas State (-13)  @ Baylor
Oklahoma (-11) @ West Virginia
Indiana (+18) @ Penn State
Louisiana Tech (+3.5) v. Utah State

Last week, Jason clocked in at 2-4, one of his only losing weeks of the season. For the college season, Jason is running along at 20-16, or 56%. Given the clip he runs at, this week’s picks should be highly successful. You can follow along with Jason as he makes his weekly college picks and where he really excels: the NFL at @brewerjason.

Alan’s Picks:
Kent State (+3) @ Bowling Green
Mississippi State (-4.5) v. Arkansas
Vandy (-3) v. Tennessee
Louisiana Tech (+3.5) v. Utah State
Kentucky (-15) v. Samford
Notre Dame (-23.5) v. Wake Forest

Week Ten was bar none the best week of the season for me and week 11 continued the hot streak as I clocked in at 4-2, bringing my season total to 14-7, or 67% against the spread. This week’s picks I feel moderately ok with, but the lack of exciting games across the board means I’m not as voracious in my prep work. Probably a couple more coming later this afternoon on our Twitter site @overthepylon.

Spread Em: Week 11

For your OTP staff, there are two things we love without apology. College football and making money. But why should we continue to keep these two passions in private when they go so well together. Each week we’ll be bringing you our picks against the dreaded spread and where we’re actually putting our money. Myself, your fearless OTP leader, as well as RV and a resident newbie to the OTP family will give you our selections to help make your Saturday more exciting, pay for junior’s college fund, or your growing meth habit. We’re not judging. We promise. You can check out Week Ten’s picks here as a sort of fact check for the referenced weekly and season records below. And what a good week it was for all of us. Whomever is using these picks is making serious money.

The spreads are when we placed the wagers, so they may be changing a bit by the time you can either get to a sportsbook, go online, or find a bookie in a seedy backroom of your local watering hole.

RV’s Picks:
Louisville (-3) @ Syracuse
Tennessee (-4) v. Missouri
Michigan (-11) v. Northwestern
Texas A&M (+14) @ Alabama
Auburn (+15) v. Georgia

Though a lifelong Notre Dame fan and unapologetic homer, RV actually can appreciate other teams and evaluate talent accordingly. RV clocked in at 4-1 in Week 10, bringing his season total to 12-8 against the spread. For you math majors out there, that’s a 60% winning percentage against the spread.

Jason “Rothstein” Brewer’s Picks:
Iowa State (+10) @ Texas
Texas A&M (+14) @ Alabama
Mississippi State (+14.5) @ LSU
UCLA (-15) @ Washington State
Minnesota (-3) @ Illinois
West Virginia (+7.5) @ Oklahoma State

Last week, Jason clocked in at 4-2, again going higher than the normal five selections. Free money for you! He stands at 18-12 on the season also clocking in at 60% much like RV above. TWINSIES!! Now for the casual better, this means combine the best of their picks and you’re looking at a significantly higher rate of return. Either way, 60% on weekly selections means after the juice, you’re essentially doubling your money every three weeks. That’s good. You can follow along with Jason as he makes his weekly college picks and where he really excels: the NFL at @brewerjason.

Alan’s Picks:
Washington (+1) v. Utah
Pitt (-3.5) @ UConn
Nebraska (-8) v. Penn State
Kansas State (-7.5) @ TCU
UCLA (-16.5) @ Washington State
Central Michigan (-2.5) @ Eastern Michigan

Week Ten was bar none the best week of the season for me and perhaps one of the best weeks of my wagering career. The five picks selected for this site clocked in at 5-0, thus bringing my season total to 10-5. Wagers made off the site were 4-1, so I’ll take 9-1 all day everyday. With just site wagers, I’m clocking a 67% rate against the spread, putting me much better than both of the slapnuts above. (WARNING: Taunting will most likely result in an 0-5 week). Six selections this week but probably a couple more coming later this afternoon on our Twitter site @overthepylon.

Spread Em: Week 10

For your OTP staff, there are two things we love without apology. College football and making money. But why should we continue to keep these two passions in private when they go so well together. Each week we’ll be bringing you our picks against the dreaded spread and where we’re actually putting our money. Myself, your fearless OTP leader, as well as RV and a resident newbie to the OTP family will give you our selections to help make your Saturday more exciting, pay for junior’s college fund, or your growing meth habit. We’re not judging. We promise. You can check out Week Eight’s picks here as a sort of fact check for the referenced weekly and season records below. Week 9 didn’t get thrown up, but scout’s honor the records are referenced correctly.

The spreads are when we placed the wagers, so they may be changing a bit by the time you can either get to a sportsbook, go online, or find a bookie in a seedy backroom of your local watering hole.

RV’s Picks:
Oregon State (-6) v. Arizona State
Texas Tech (-7) v. Texas
Oregon (-8) @ USC
Louisville (-15) v. Temple
Ohio State (-26) v. Illinois

Though a lifelong Notre Dame fan and unapologetic homer, RV actually can appreciate other teams and evaluate talent accordingly. RV clocked in at 3-2 in Week 8, and 2-3 in week 9, bringing his season total to 8-7. Do that enough and you consistently make money.

Jason “Rothstein” Brewer’s Picks:
Oregon (-8.5) @ USC
Kansas State (-9) v. Oklahoma State
Alabama (-9) @ LSU
Pittsburgh (+17) @ Notre Dame
Clemson (-13) @ Duke
Arizona (+3.5) @ UCLA

Last week, Jason clocked in at 5-5, and following his 6-2 week 9, that’s impressive. He stands at 14-10 on the season if you’re scoring at home. And if you are, congrats! Thursday nights are often the hardest to wrangle some strange. Jason also clearly throws conventional rules and direction out the window and gives you more than the five that RV and I do. But, alas, like most things in life, when you’re winning you can punch your own ticket.

Alan’s Picks:
Penn State (-3.5) @ Purdue
Vanderbilt (-7) @ Kentucky
Pitt (+16.5) @ Notre Dame
Kansas State (-8.5) v. Oklahoma State
Oregon (-8) @ USC

Only made one wager last week taking Ohio State early in the week on the moneyline before Braxton Miller’s status was known. That proved to be quite fruitful as the Buckeyes rolled the Nittany Lions leaving me 1-0 for Week 9 and 5-5 on the season.

Spread Em: Week 8

For your OTP staff, there are two things we love without apology. College football and making money. But why should we continue to keep these two passions in private when they go so well together. Each week we’ll be bringing you our picks against the dreaded spread and where we’re actually putting our money. Myself, your fearless OTP leader, as well as RV and a resident newbie to the OTP family will give you our selections to help make your Saturday more exciting, pay for junior’s college fund, or your growing meth habit. We’re not judging. We promise. You can check out last week’s picks here as a sort of fact check for the referenced weekly and season records below.

The spreads are when we placed the wagers, so they may be changing a bit by the time you can either get to a sportsbook, go online, or find a bookie in a seedy backroom of your local watering hole.

RV’s Picks:
Penn State (+3) @ Iowa
Indiana (+3) @ Navy
Toledo (+7) v. Cincinnati
Clemson (-10) v. Virginia Tech
Ohio state (-21) v. Purdue

Though a lifelong Notre Dame fan and unapologetic homer, RV actually can appreciate other teams and evaluate talent accordingly. RV clocked in at 3-2 in Week 7, and since that was the first week we did this super awesome fun time, that’s also his season record. Ask any gambler and a 60% rate of return is not bad at all.

Jason “Rothstein” Brewer’s Picks:
Texas A&M (+3.5) v. LSU
Clemson (-8.5) v. Virginia Tech
Louisville (-7.5) v. South Florida
Miami (+17.5) v. Florida State
Stanford (-2.5) @ Cal
Baylor (+11) @ Texas
Northwestern (+5) v. Nebraska
Kent State (-4) v. Western Michigan

Last week saw Jason go 3-3, but to be fair, the backdoor cover for SC v. LSU was the baddest of bad beats. Jason has been running at about a 60% clip this season, but that does include his NFL selections. What’s that you say? You’d like to see those as well as his college football choices as soon as they’re ready? You should follow him on Twitter then at @brewerjason. His record in Spread ‘Em is 3-3 so far for the season.

Alan’s Picks:
Louisville (-6) v. South Florida
Rutgers (-3.5) v. Temple
West Virginia (-2.5) v. Kansas State
Notre Dame (-12.5) v. BYU
Baylor (+8.5) v. Texas

Last week, I broke my cardinal rule and bet on one of the teams I’m passionate about, taking Kentucky and 17.5 points against Arkansas. The bloody outcome of that game was actually called earlier than expected thanks to a lightning delay, and as such, the wager was refunded. So that totally didn’t count! Therefore, I’m 2-2 on the season. Strange .500 still is .500.

Spread ‘Em: Week 7

For your OTP staff, there are two things we love without apology. College football and making money. But why should we continue to keep these two passions in private when they go so well together. Each week we’ll be bringing you our picks against the dreaded spread and where we’re actually putting our money. Myself, your fearless OTP leader, as well as RV and a resident newbie to the OTP family will give you our selections to help make your Saturday more exciting, pay for junior’s college fund, or your growing meth habit. We’re not judging. We promise.

The spreads are when we placed the wagers, so they may be changing a bit by the time you can either get to a sportsbook, go online, or find a bookie in a seedy backroom of your local watering hole.

RV’s Picks:
Auburn (+5) v. Mississippi
North Carolina (-7) v. Miami
Washington (+12) v. USC
Iowa State (+8) v. Kansas State
Florida (-8) v. Vandy

RV has followed college football for basically his entire life and could probably rattle off every Notre Dame player ever. True story. Since this is the first week of Spread ‘Em, RV is 0-0, but don’t let that stop you from laughing all the way to the bank with his selections.

Jason “Rothstein” Brewer’s Picks:
Pittsburgh (+3) v. Louisville
Oklahoma (-3.5) v. Texas
Washington (+13) v. USC
Iowa State (+7) v. Kansas State
Missouri (+21.5) v. Alabama
LSU (-3) v. South Carolina

Jason has been running at about a 60% clip this season, but that does include his NFL selections. What’s that you say? You’d like to see those as well as his college football choices as soon as they’re ready? You should follow him on Twitter then at @brewerjason. His record in Spread ‘Em is 0-0 so far, and for now, is tied with us for the lead.

Alan’s Picks:
Boise State (-7) v. Fresno State
West Virginia (-2) v. Texas Tech
Kentucky (+17.5) v. Arkansas
South Carolina (Moneyline) v. LSU
Louisville (-1.5) v. Pitt

I’m breaking my cardinal rule in that I’m betting on Kentucky. However, as much of a dumpster fire as Arkansas has been this season, I’m feeling it. Biggest risk this week is South Carolina on the road at LSU, but with a great offense and a stagnant LSU offense, I’ll take a Top 5 team on a moneyline anytime I can get it. Like the other two, I’m 0-0 so far this season in Pick ‘Em, but running just a shade under 60% on the season.
