I remember back when Kelly Page had two usable hands!
I guess our statement last week of “It can’t get much worse” was proven to be totally and completely incorrect. The most recent rash of bad news? Kelly Page, freshman starting QB, is out for the remainder of the season after breaking his thumb on Saturday. But not just any old thumb… the thumb on his throwing hand. Stupendous.
From the BSU release:
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State University redshirt freshman quarterback Kelly Page suffered a broken thumb on his right hand Saturday against Bowling Green and is not expected to return the remainder of the season.
Page made his first career collegiate start in Ball State’s season opener vs. North Texas. He completed his first career touchdown pass on a 21-yard scoring strike to Seth White with 8:50 to play vs. New Hampshire. He rushed for his first career TD with 3:51 to play in the first quarter at Army and scored on a 15-yard run. He completed a career high 25 passes on a career best 41 attempts for 234 yards and a career best two touchdown passes vs. Toledo. Page threw for a career high 237 yards and tied his career best with two TD passes at Temple while completing 22-of-37 passes vs. the Owls, including a career long 51-yard touchdown pass to Torieal Gibson.
On the season, Page started seven games and has completed 109-of-207 passes for 1,019 yards with seven touchdowns.
I mean… seriously?!?! This is without doubt one of the flukiest damn seasons in recent memory. As if 0-7 wasn’t bad enough, now we suffer the angry football Gods’ wrath as another starter goes down with a season ending injury. That’s 3… all on offense… all in the passing game… the area of the offense that most were significantly concerned about before the season started. Kelly Page joins Madaris Grant and Seth White as some of most promising and athletic clipboard holders.
Now all eyes turn to Tanner Justice, and the good news is that Tanner’s results certainly can’t be any worse than Kelly’s. I would say there’s nowhere to go but up, but clearly those sort of statements result in your 0-7 team losing another player to injury. Watch out MiQuale…
