So it’s that time again when I post the draft ballot of OTP and see what, if any, changes are needed through commentary and critique from you. The poll itself, the movements, and the attempted rationale for this puppy is after the jump. Follow if you dare…

Last week’s ballot

The particulars:

  • Dropped out this week were Notre Dame (#18), North Carolina (#23), and Oregon State (#25). The Irish because of the loss makes sense. UNC and Oregon State very easily could have lost to severely less talented teams in Connecticut and UNLV respectively. Neither of those two have shown anything so far this season to warrant being ranked.
  • The top of the poll remains virtually the same, save for USC jumping Texas. I was very close to jumping Florida, as USC’s resume is significantly stronger. This, unfortunately, is the problem with polls this early. It’s a combination of resume, accomplishments, and expectations. Tenuous balance, but I feel ok about this ballot. Significantly better than last week.
  • The droppers this week were challenging. An argument could be made to dump Oklahoma State out entirely, but I don’t agree with that. I think it is more an undervaluing of Houston and an overvaluing of Oklahoma State. Houston makes an appearance at #20 for us, and thus, Oklahoma State right behind. Georgia falls again, but only a spot. Mostly for not dominating a team right after a loss. Either we’re very much undervaluing South Carolina or overvaluing Georgia. Perhaps a little of both.
  • In our waiting room for next week are teams like Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, and UCLA.
