OTP Celebrates 1 Year

Happy Birthday to Us

July 25th is sort of an important day. Bob Dylan first plugged in his guitar in 1965. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis staged their first comedy show as a duo in 1946. Estelle Getty, Walter Payton, and porn star Tera Patrick all were born, while Randy Pausch, Ben Hogan, and Carl “Cookie” Brashear all passed away. Ranking amongst all those epic events, births, and deaths was the creation of this here website. One year ago July 25th, the OTP recipe of one part football, one part off color humor, and three parts awesome first got mixed up. And we gotta tell you, this little dish turned out way more delicious than we expected.

Over the course of the last year, we’ve had quite the little coming out party. We’ve watched the Cardinals have their best year ever, Kentucky win their 3rd straight Bowl, former players be kind enough to sit down for interviews, and tried our damndest to increase our readers’ knowledge, humor, and general fun as they plod along from Saturday to Saturday in the fall. We’ve been unpopular at times (the Boise State fiasco) popular at others (when we broke the story of Coach Hoke leaving) and pretty much every possible permutation of respectable, offensive, and immature in between.

RV… what say you?

Alan and I originally started this as more of a way to waste time but it’s turned into so much more. While we have ridden the ebb and flow of the Ball State Cardinals, and I guess the Kentucky Wildcats to an extent, it has become obvious to the three of us how much we enjoy acting like we know more than everyone else. As I look to the future, I hope that Alan and Edge can continue to provide the highest level of content while I pretend like I’m actually a part of it all. We’ve come so far, and we wouldn’t be here without our readers…so continue to follow us as we battle over the merits of our beloved mid-major and a run-of-the-mill SEC school.

Well said.

There is certainly plenty of thanks to go around, most notably to our friends in the blogosphere as well as the folks in the administration of both UK and BSU like Tony Neeley, DeWayne Peevy, and Joe Hernandez  who have been kind enough to let us be a part of the club. Guys like Spencer at EDSBS, Brian at MGoBlog, Joel at Rocky Top Talk, Glenn at A Sea of Blue, Jerry at The Joe Cribbs Car Wash, all fantastic fellas who have made our journey through the blogosphere something pretty amazing for all of us.

My thanks also go to our site’s co-authors Edge and RV, who have filled in gaps, posted when I had no desire to do so, ran liveblogs, and come up with stats that make your head spin. They were instrumental in the site redesign and truthfully, were it not for them, the site wouldn’t be nearly as good as it is.

Finally, a tremendous thanks to our readers. It’s because of all of you we do this, work at this, and try our damndest every day to give adequate coverage to college football, Ball State, and Kentucky. For those that have been here since day 1, our thanks, and we hope you’re happy with how the site’s evolved. For those relatively new to the site, sit tight, hang on, and realize that sappy posts like this come along once a year.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled smarmy immaturity…

  1. I enjoy the sight boys. Keep up the good work and how about a little love for the Hoosiers and their worst recruiting class since the 80′s this year.

  2. Congrats to you guys! Every morning I look in the mirror and say to myself, “How can I be more like OTP today?”
